Any chance we can add fortnightly (every two weeks) to this some day?

Here is the updated UI :)

Recurring expenses are here! Come try it out if you have any recurring txns you want to not forget :)
Nick Trefz
Bradley Bernard Heck yeah! Perfect timing with it being the first of a month :) I just added a couple expenses this morning that I'm going to configure as recurring. Great work!
Nick Trefz
Oh. I didn't realize it was limited to 3 recurring expenses. Is there somewhere I can say how many expenses are allowed within the paid tiers?
EDIT: Also I attempted to edit a recurring payment, to combine two costs from the same vendor, and I got the error about only allowing 3 expenses. I'm just not understanding why I would get that error if I'm editing one my 3.
Scott Inglis
Something I always wanted on similar apps was a page that just lists all your recurring expenses in one place. It can be easy to forget yearly expenses
Bradley Bernard
Scott Inglis: Agreed!
Steve Place
Scott Inglis I'm with you on this one. It's something akin to viewing subscription services, except it's for recurring expenses as a type of category.
Nick Trefz
Very cool prototype! If I may, I've seen versions of this where there's a bit more configuration:
- choose repeat...
- choose interval measurement (daily, weekly, monthly, annually)
- choose the number of intervals
#3 is I think the difference here. It's nice because it allows things like biweekly recurrences. Google calendar works this way. I certainly wouldn't want to overcomplicate this feature, but I think this strikes a nice balance of clarity and flexibility. What do you think?
Alkarim Billawala
Nick Trefz this could be cool for a future iteration, perhaps hidden behind an advanced menu.
Bradley Bernard
Nick Trefz: I definitely like this but it does introduce some complexity, let me think more about it. I assume 90% will be weekly/monthly and be done with it. I can ship a future more "advanced" version, but v1 will likely be more simple than this, with this in mind for the future though :)
Bradley Bernard
Hey all, here is a work in progress of what I'm building now, allowing: weekly, monthly, and yearly options, showing you the next occurrences of each of those options based on the date you provide.
Alkarim Billawala
Bradley Bernard Fantastic! Also maybe consider an end date or # of recurrences.
Additionally, I think maybe add a quarterly option? This may be especially useful for those running businesses. Obviously, monthly and yearly are the priorities though, so dont let this be a detour if it requires too much work.
Nick Trefz
Bradley Bernard I like the "Future occurrences" list. I don't think I've seen that before on features like this, but it's useful info.
Steve Place
Bradley Bernard This is a great starting point! As another person commented above, there are lots of ways to configure this, but it starts to get complicated. Monthly makes up I think 99% of our recurring expenses that would get built out. Some of this is negated when you're perhaps importing your expenses, but we do it manually throughout the month.

Excited for this specific release!

Bradley, I found this app searching for a solution to automate bill splitting. I prefer setting up autopay and never having to open up my utility account to do anything. To split with my partner, it’s takes each month, creating the same problem that autopay solves. Here’s what I would like to see, and if your app could do this I would gladly pay 9/month and champion this to others, there’s requests all over Reddit for something that can do this and you have the infrastructure.
- The ability to flag transactions by either the charging entity (ABC Utility Co) and by AI-defined types (groceries). Then the ability to define a true up cadence. Or by time period - for example im going on vacation, I want everything for the next week that hits my card (excluding regular recurring expenses or select categories to exclude) automatically goes into a new list to true up after).
- It’s set it and forget from there for the most part. In my opinion, at least for this use case, the best customer experience is a minimal customer experience. Logging into a platform and selecting expenses takes time. At that point I might as well just put it in Splitwise manually.
- The option for a true up cadence where you send a report of everything that’s getting split, I can hit approve, and it triggers the transaction OR there’s an option to trust the platform and make the request automatically. Give people the option to trust the platform first.
You have most of the pieces, at least the most complex pieces it seems, you can deliver a lot of value in saving people time, and nobody is doing this today. I love what you’ve started but it’s not the right solution for me yet. I hope that you’ll consider this.
One other thing, you have to offer a free trial for premium features. Your best features are premium and I believe they should be, but I have no way to see how it all actually works.
Thanks for giving this some thought!
Bradley Bernard
Patrick Peek: Hey Patrick, thanks so much for providing detailed feedback. I'm going to stir on this for some time and get back to you soon, just wanted to let you know since it's been a while :)
